- City Harvest is working with grade 5 students
- Musical IQ is working with grade 3 students
- ELMCOR is presenting workshop for parents every Wednesday for the next five weeks
- 1/9 NYC Emergency Management Assemblies
- 1/13 & 1/20 - Kindergarten Open House
- 1/14 - NYC Reads Workshop for parents
- 1/15 - NYPD Anti-Bullying Lessons - Kindergarten
- 1/16 - Grade 5 Graduation Photos
- 1/30 - Charter Champion Celebration
- Clubs
- Disney Club started on 1/6. 75 students will be part of the Disney Cast or the Disney Design Team.
- After School Clubs are starting on 1/20
- CASA Queens Theatre in the Park will start in February.
- Saturday Academy and STEM Saturday for targeted students will start on Saturday 1/24
- Mandated Testing
- Students began taking the Universal Screeners on Friday
- ELA: K-2 will take Acadience and 3-5 will take NWEA MAP Growth
- Math: K-5 will take NWEA MAP Growth
- We are also having a Computer Based Testing Simulation on January 29th for grade 3-5
- Important: Nurses’ Strike: NYS Nursing Association has authorized a strike starting today. This impacts some contracted nurses. Currently, it does not impact our daily operations, but may impact field trips when a nurse is required.

- 12/23 - Multicultural potluck was a huge success with over 300 people
- 1/13 - Family martial arts lesson, and a rep from Sunnyside will be tabling to help access affordable childcare
- 1/16 - Grade 5 graduation photos and photo make up day
- 1/21 - PTA meeting at 6:00 PM (virtual)
- February hip-hop dance lesson for Black History Month (date TBD)
- 2/27 - PTA Meeting with Charter Champion celebration at 8:30 AM
- We are working on planning parent workshops - if anyone has suggestions, please reach out to PTA
- Sunnyside Report
- December events: Dance performances and Art/STEM showcase was very successful
- 1/19 - No Sunnyside camp
- 1/28 - Virtual Paint Night 6:30 PM
- 3/18 - Art/STEM Gallery
- Sunnyside Evaluative Visit in December received an above standard rating
- Hopefully opening up another 2nd grade class soon (or 2/3 bridge). They are finalizing hiring more staff.
- Sunnyside now has an early childhood care enrollment specialist to help parents access free daycare programs. 1/14 - 2/27 is the free daycare enrollment period. They also have support with care for seniors. If there are any other events where they could table, please let us know.
- Student council members were selected - 2 students each from grade 3, 4, and 5
- Conservation Club starting two days per week this Spring with NYC Dept. of Environmental Conservation
